Hacker technology for normal day use

According to different laws or depending on their needs, most companies these days integrate systems that track and show the presence of their employees in the company during their working hours.

Different software show different statistics that could help the company better handle their working process and flow of the working environment.

Macedonian companies are not an exception of this process as well. They have the same requirements and needs as the other companies in the world that implement similar systems.

G6 on the other hand is a company that loves technology and different software systems, so when it came to the point to respect the rules and requirements we did it while putting our own magic and created something awesome.

G6 click device, or as we call it – The Beeper is a device that contains the following parts:

  • Arduino – an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software

  • Ethernet module

  • RFID reader – that is used to transmit an encoded radio signal to interrogate the tag

  • Buzzer

  • RFID card

  • Display (that shows different statuses depending on situation in which the employee is in)

It works really easy. Arduino is connected to the ethernet module and the RFID reader. It is charged from the USB port while the ethernet module is connected with lan cable to the router. During the connection with the tracker, if the connection is established successfully, the buzzer will transmit a signal in the form of a sound.

In that case when the card is close to the tracker, it will transmit one sound for “enter” and one different sound for “exit”.

When it comes to the connection, depending on the company or the need, the device can be made with Wireless or LAN connection.

But of course that is not enough. In order to work depending on its purpose the device needs to be connected to a software solution.

These days there are a lot of simular solutions in the market, and most of them are paid. But instead of using one of them we made our of indication software.

The device works with RFID cards that are assigned to each employee and together with the software it is more or less like a log file database, that shows the situation in which the employers are in, according to their use of the card. It gives us the exact time when they are in the office, and when they are out. It shows us on which projects they are working on, when they are on vacation and much much more.

According to the research that we did previously for this specific need there are a lot of solutions that can be used, but for us, most of them are too complicated to implement or use. That is why we decided to grab our usual tools PHP and Laravelfor the backend (such as storing and managing the data) combined with Arduino for the mechanical part.

And it took us around one month (research+development+testing) to build an indicator that is simple, easy to use and awesome.

Of course the system can be used for other purposes and as a normal software solution it can be upgraded depending on the company or the needs.
