If you are a Snapchat lover from Macedonia, this will be super cool and exciting news for you!
Guess what?
Skopje now has a geofilter and we are super excited to tell you the story behind the scenes.
Not so long ago Sasha from our team – which by the way is a crazy snapchatter found out that all around the world people can design stickers for Snapchat, apply with that design and hopefully be approved from the Snapchat team, so their masterpiece can be a symbol of their city on the application.
Here in G6 we really love to contribute and make people happier, we also love challenges, so we decided to design a sticker for Skopje and apply with it.
With a lot of help and ideas from all the team I made around five cool stickers and in a period of one month we got to appy, be rejected, apply again and win the battle!
Last night all of us were crazy excited when we saw that two of our designs were accepted and now Skopje has a geofilter on Snapchat!
For all of you that are not familiar with geofilters, these are special overlays for your Snaps that can only be accessed in certain locations. Snapchat recently encouraged artists and designers to use their geofilter tool to bring their one-of-a-kind style to the Snapchat community. More about this tool you can read here.
Here are some explanation about why I decided to make these specific designs and what is the message behind them.
First and foremost we wanted to show the unique parts of our city and we focused mainly on what Skopje is most famous for.
In this sticker the green shapes represent “Porta Makedonija” – a triumphal arch located on Pella Square, the blue shapes represent one of the oldest locations in the city “Stone Bridge” – a bridge across the Vardar River in Skopje built on Roman foundations under the patronage of Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror, the orange and yellow shapes are part of Skopje Fortress and the red shape represents Alexander the Great or Warrior on a horse, also one of the latest monuments in the city.
In this sticker on the other hand, I decided to add simplicity, but to keep the main symbols of our city, with a bit of modern twist.
The orange-yellow shapes represent the Skopje Fortress – commonly referred to as Kale Fortress, or simply Kale, a historic fortress located in theold town, the blue shape represents one of the oldest locations in the city “Stone Bridge” and the towers on the right-most side are the tallest towers in the city called Cevahir Towers.
So snapchatters, we hope you like our colorful contribution. We are expecting your feedback on Facebook and Twitter!
